REVIEW: SHAKINAH'S FANTASTIC NEW SUMMER MENU AND SLEEK COURTYARD

I didn’t think my love for Shakinah, the trendy Indian restaurant in Ta 'Xbiex, could further increase, but after tasting their new summer menu and chilling in their new sleek courtyard to match (with concrete booths)… it did.

Being from London/UK where the Indian community and food scene is ever so strong, it says a lot when I tell you that Shakinah would totally excel there... and I can't say this for a lot of indian restaurants on the island (even the ones I love). Everything from the decor to the glassware is spot on. Don’t even get me started on the top notch service.

Don't get it twisted, the original a la carte is still available (you must try the pahadi chicken), but new items include the most succulent salmon tikka (served sizzling on a hot plate) which will make your taste buds pop with every bite.

The creativity and authentic flavours of their fresh prawn offering is astounding. You must order the Jhinga Spring Roll (deep fried, flavoured with fresh ginger and garlic) and the palate-pleasing fried Rava Prawns which are juicy, flavoursome and chunky.

I couldn't contain myself when the Tangdi Kebab arrived at the table. Let me feed your curiosity by explaining that these come in the form of meaty chicken drumsticks.... cooked on the tandoori clay oven and heavily marinated (you can clearly see this by the colour of the chicken’s flesh).

We also had Lamb Keema Mutter and the Aloo Chutney Pilau (rice with mint coriander potato and butter ghee), but they’re not dishes i'd personally rave about or order again, unlike my husband.

Go to Shakinah and arrive hungry. They also have a new summer cocktail menu and I absolutely vouch for the Kofee Iced Cream.
