REVIEW: ONDA BLU, A NEW SEAFOOD RESTAURANT IN PIETÀ WITH FOOD YOU WON'T FORGET

Onda Blu is a seafood restaurant that just opened in Pietà and it is the kind of restaurant that will leave a lasting impression. Every thing is formidable from beginning to end. I have absolutely nothing to fault, and I always have something to fault.

Onda Blu only opened about three months ago and I honestly can't recommend it enough. It has ruined a lot of seafood restaurants in Malta for me.

The exemplary menu is vast. Let me begin with the antipasti section, which proudly boasts a plethora of tartares, carpaccios and shellfish, all stunningly presented and expertly prepared. It is hard to choose a favourite, but I highly recommend the swordfish carpaccio, prawn carpaccio, the tuna carpaccio and the raw red prawns. A symphony of flavours is what you can expect... 10/10 from me.

You'll find hundreds of restaurants in Malta serving oysters. This is guaranteed. However, a significant amount either have the not-so-fleshy on the smaller scale oysters (with high prices to match), or to be totally honest... those that aren't that fresh.

Onda offers Gillardeau oysters. These are not only my favourite (not being biased because i'm French), but the best you can have. The freshness here is evident as soon as you consume the meatiest flesh.

The aljotta exceeded my expectations. Onda Blu's version of this loved Maltese seafood soup involves a generous bowlful featuring an impressive interplay of chunky shellfish, swimming in a piping hot tomato based broth. It was like a warm hug from a loved one.

The plump, juicy and firm scallops accompanied by pea puree and topped with crisp pancetta was a showstopper starter that your palate will thank you for.

To end this near perfect culinary journey, I opted for the striking risotto with saffron, scallops and prawn crudo from the pasta and rice section.

To be honest, the only thing frustrating about this restaurant is the fact that there is so much to choose from without them compromising on quality. This is officially my favourite restaurant in Malta. I thank them for being exceptionally consistent.

Your wages will be well spent here.
