Whatever your thoughts on the MICHELIN guide, it’s the guide that restaurateurs and chefs most revere and the annual announcement brings a storm of anticipation and discussion.
Although it's the worst timing as local restaurants have been forced to shut down, the results of the second edition of the 2021 MICHELIN Guide Malta were announced earlier today.
NEW STARS:
1. ION - The Harbour, Valletta: This restaurant only opened around six months ago and thanks to head chef Andrew Borg, they secured that star due to creativity and an unrivalled dining experience. You can find it within the the prestigious walls of the luxurious 5* Iniala Harbour House & Residences, Valletta.
2. Bahia, Lija: I have always been a very big fan of Bahia and I think this star is well and truly dersrved. The dining experience is second to none and the kitchen brigade execute each dish with finesse. I highly recommend you to go.
NEW PLATES:
1. Fernando Gastrotheque, Sliema (review)
2. The Fork & Cork, Rabat
3. Mezzodi, Valletta (review)

Commando Restaurant in Mellieha, Terrone in Birgu and Rubino in Valletta have kept their Bib Gourmands. De Mondion, Under Grain and Noni have retained their Michelin stars.
Congratulations to everyone involved. Around this time last year, Michelin included Malta in their world-famous guide for the first time ever - a proud moment for the local restaurant scene. Three Stars, three Bib Gourmands and over 20 plates were dished out.
