A NEW GERMAN-AUSTRIAN FOOD MENU HAS GRACED MELLIEHA WITH ITS PRESENCE

 
 

Not only have they managed to launch the first authentic German-Austrian Christmas market in Malta (check it out if you haven't already), LABRANDA Riviera Hotel & Spa in Mellieha have just launched a German-Austrian food menu at its Osteria Tropea restaurant.


You'll have the option of a generous glass of mulled wine (2.80) to whet your appetite and warm your cockles.




Starters include a silky Veg Broth with Spinach and Cheese Dumplings, Salmon Gravlax infused with Rum and Lebkuchengewürz (recommended), Porco Tonnato (thin slices of pork with creamy tuna sauce) or Käsespätzle (fresh egg pasta with cheese, chive, bechamel sauce and crispy onions).



For mains expect either Roast Duck with Apple and Red Cabbage compote (served with pan-fried dumplings and red wine duck jus) or tuck into Tafelspitz (exceptionally tender boiled beef). Both of which I recommend. 


There is also Wiener Schnitzel (the popular Austrian dish of breaded veal escalope... (which I personally found was a bit on the thin and dry side) and Käsespätzle. 

If you have room for more, desserts come in the form of your classic Apple Strudel (with cinnamon, walnut powder and vanilla custard sauce) or the Black Forest Gateau (with chocolate shavings and cherry layered cream)!
