Having lived in London for 20 odd years, the only thing I miss is the food scene, especially the epic street food scene. I was really excited when I heard of Be Lucky Food Co, a brand new truck that pays homage to London's street food industry, founded by Ljupco Petrov and Dominic Tabone (one of which is Essex-born but lived in London for decades).
Be Lucky Food Co specialises in burgers, hot dogs, wraps, baps, salads and more. Most of the items on the pretty long menu are named after a London area. They are currently parked in St Julian's (Spinola Bay's car park) from 6pm-11pm, Tuesday till Sunday. Also, they will soon be offering lunch and late night deliveries.
The burger offering includes the Blue-Min Lovely (patty, melted blue cheese, parma ham, mustard sauce), Smokey BBQ (patty, bacon, crispy onions, melted cheese), Part III (patty, rocket, parma ham, grana padano) and the Charlie Big Cheese (with two different beef patties, triple cheese, onion rings, bacon, mushrooms, crispy onions). All burgers come with fries and a toasted brioche bun.
Wrap your lips around the Barbican Beef (with their home-cured beef, fried with onions in a BBQ sauce and served on a ftira), the Brick Lane Bap (home-cured beef with cheese, pickles and mustard mayo, served in a bun) Finsbury's Crispy Treats (crispy treats coated in breadcrumbs, deep-fried and stuffed with melted cheese and ham).
Vegans can opt for the Hackney Hipster (soya chunks marinated with spices, peppers and onion, then pan fried and served with vegan sauce, onions, peppers in a ftira), the Dalston Wrap (kind of the same as the Hackney Hipster but served in a toasted tortilla instead) or a side of spiced corn. They will grow their vegan offering in the very near future.
If you like hot dogs then you're in luck, Be Lucky offers six. A Standard (with crispy onions, ketchup mustard), one with cheese and bacon, one with melted cheese, the Full Stack (with Be Lucky beef, cheese, bacon, mushrooms, crispy onions) and the Smokehouse Dog with BBQ sauce. The sausages used for each hot dog are locally-sourced.
Be Lucky also serves hearty salads such as the Ridley Road (with marinated chicken breast pieces, griddled with peppers and onions, dressing and served with a house salad).
Sides include fries, sweet potato fries, cheese and bacon fries, fully loaded fries (with two kinds of cheeses, bacon and BBQ beef), halloumi fries and more.
