Ever since I saw that mysterious banner at Carob Tree (the beloved food court in St Julian's) showcasing a new Lebanese eatery, I knew I had to investigate further. The opening date is set to be around Christmas time.
NOOR promises to offer the finest traditional Lebanese cuisine and special dishes that you won't find elsewhere. The owner, Anthony Baladi, assures me that there will be a big focus on authenticity. Although there might be a slight few changes, here is what I've been told about the menu:
The cold mezze section will offer plates such as hummus, moussaka, warek enab (vine leaves stuffed with rice), moutabal (a spicy aubergine dip) okra in tomato sauce and more.
Hot mezzes include makanek (small spicy sausages), Sawda Djej (chicken livers with pomegranate), falafel, balila (marinated boiled chickpeas), Armenian spicy sausages and more.
Mains will come in the form of daily specials, daily soups, beef kafta, marinated grilled chicken cubes, and marinated grilled meats. Each dish will come with hummus and fries.
If you prefer a quick bite, opt for one of the many sandwiches NOOR will serve with homemade grilled Lebanese breads. These can be stuffed with falafel, grilled aubergine, chicken liver, labneh, chopped meat and more.
NOOR will offer an array of doughs with various toppings (like a Lebanese pizza) or doughs stuffed with different fillings such as the Sfiha (rissole filled with meat, pine nuts, onions and spices).
There will be four hearty salad options (including tabouleh) and plenty of authentic Lebanese desserts for all you sweet-tooths.
