While most restaurants are currently struggling to get punters in even on a Saturday, the Palmiers and team manage to have a full house on the dreariest day of the week.
Let’s all give a round of applause to Mondays with Kane, a pop up at La Buona Trattoria del Nonno in St Paul's Bay, (known for THOSE ribs).
This was nobly created with the sole purpose of bringing excitement and London supper club vibes that most here have tried to do, but have failed.
It smoothly combines all of the following experiential ingredients:
Killer cocktails: spearheaded by the talented and charismatic cocktail duo, Panos Foteiadis and Tisho Mihaylov. Every Monday, they'll be concocting a different menu specifically for the night. Expect cocktails that match their personalities... a little bit out there (and it's a pleasure to watch them perform).
Scrumptious food: expect a weekly-changing menu which is influenced by old school Italian dishes.
Sorry to make you green with envy as these may not be on future menus, but those plump house-made Salsiccia al Pistacchio were a delight. Who knew pistachio would be such a great vehicle for pork sausage? Well, obviously Kane did.
A trio of chunky scallops, pan-seared, were elevated to the max by a silky courgette veloute, burnt apple gel and hazelnut crumbs. This dish was texturally playful and palate-teasing.
The fish of the night was a glistening golden whole Dover sole, one of the best flat fishes you can have. The flesh was firm and as white as a Hollywood starlet's veneers. The mild meat was enhanced with butter, lemon and parsley.
The tomahawk was the reason why I opted out of ordering a pasta dish (which i'll do next time). This beast was slathered with peppercorn, béarnaise and red wine jus. I usually prefer my steaks without sauce so the natural juices speak for themselves, however this was a culinary triumph.
The live music was top notch. Guests were singing along to the smooth vocals of Kevin Paul Calleja whose carefully-selected choice of songs created the vibe that made it an explosive yet civilised night. The vocalist will be weekly-changing however.
'You nailed it'. These were my last words to Kane after spending an epic Monday night at the inauguration of the second series of his weekly supperclub nights. And I urge you do too... but hurry, there are only four more to go, and they tend to sell out pretty quickly.
Mondays with Kane - treated like family is guaranteed.
