REVIEW: MANOUCHE - THE DINNER MENU IS EVEN BETTER THAN ITS BRUNCH
Contrary to popular opinion, although I'm a fan of the brunch offering from Manouche, which has a tremendous reputation all over the island, I'm going to go ahead and say you need to stop looking at it as primarily a brunch spot. Why? Because I wholeheartedly believe that dinner there is ten times better (and that says a lot).
They recently launched their new dinner menu and impressed doesn't even begin to cut it. I'd be very surprised if anyone has anything negative to say.
The menu showcases exemplary authentic French (bistro) cuisine which is reminiscent to my time in Paris (my birth city).
I have absolutely nothing to fault. My starter of choice included snails done the unapologetically French way. Heavily perfumed and smothered with butter and garlic.
The formidable and perfectly-cooked duck Breast Magret made its performance married with cabbage and a delicate red wine jus. This is served alongside dauphinoise potatoes.
The fattiness and earthiness of the tender duck was very well complemented by the subtle sweetness of the blackberries. The beetroot puree added colour and elevated the dish further.
It'd be a shame to not have ordered the show-stopping steak frites. My cut of choice was the Argentinian grain-fed bavette, flawlessly grilled with a stunning pink and juicy centre. A fabulous ODE to this popular French dish.
Risotto is a pretty hard dish for a restaurant to get right. Their vegan-friendly risotto involved pea puree, spinach, asparagus, olive oil and lemon. The result proved to be palate-pleasing, with the rice being cooked how it should be thus owning the right texture. This tasted like a garden on a plate with a hint of zest.
Forget brunch, I strongly urge you to go to Manouche for dinner. I promise you will not regret it.
