STREET FOOD IN MALTA: 16 OF THE BEST TRUCKS

 

Every foodie will agree that it's not always about fine dining to get an excellent meal. A lot of the time in the culinary world... less is more. Street food trucks are providers of some of the best foods in the world (there's even a hit Netflix series dedicated to meals on wheels). 

So it's time to hit the streets to follow some of the top street food trucks in Malta, because you don't need a swanky kitchen to cook up an extraordinary meal!

EAT are purveyors of exemplary barbecued and smoked dishes... particularly meat. On the menu, you'll find smoked pulled pork or beef, Philly cheesesteak, scrumptious burgers (including the Juicy Lucy), beef brisket and more.

The Chippy Van, Gozo and Malta

This lovely couple from Yorkshire (UK) have dedicated their time to bring the most authentic British fish & chips to Gozo and Malta. You'll also find scampi & chips, mushy peas and battered sausage & chips. Everything is homemade!

Find them from 5pm-8pm in Malta (Mellieha Bay or St Paul's Bay) and Gozo (Marsalforn or Mgarr Harbour).

Yugto Bao Buns, Sliema

Bao down to Yugto. Their menu includes succulent buns filled with either hoisin pulled chicken, pork belly, tender duck, brisket, torpedo prawn and more. Fat, fluffy and delicious! 

They also have two rice dishes. The Korean pork belly (Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) and a chicken curry (Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays). Their extended opening hours run until 9pm.

If you're craving good Vietnamese grub, then you're in luck! Saigon's menu will sort you out with beef pho, Viet spring rolls (fresh or fried), banh mi, satay and other specials. 

You can find them in Swatar on Mondays and Thursdays (in front of  Tower Business Centre), Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Ta' Xbiex and Fridays at Malta International Airport.

This Asian fusion street food truck is popular for a reason. Wrap your lips around items (although the menu changes often) such as red Thai curries, bang bang chicken, chicken katsu, honey glazed crispy beef and more.

Sofrito are a Jack of all trades. They have lots of dishes from all over the world including burgers (such as Wagyu and duck), piadinas (spicy chicken, falafel, steak & cheese and red lentil), various kinds of egg noodle options, vegan spring rolls, ramen and more.

They stick to their promise of bringing traditional Belgian fries to Malta. You can have your fries smothered in various sauces such as curry ketchup, tartar, satay, sweet onion, mayo and more. The fries are freshly cut daily and double-fried in refined beef fat.

The Belgian Fry also dish out snacks such as chicken corn, nuggets, frikandel sausage, meat croquette and cheese soufflé.

Find them in Xemxija Bay Thursdays to Sundays, 12pm - 10pm (hours might change so do stalk their Facebook page).

Although Ann's taking a little break at the moment, when she's back in action, you can devour healthy yet hearty homemade food dishes using local ingredients. Dishes have Mediterranean, North African and Middle Eastern influences and flavours.
