BEST PLACES FOR CHEESE AND COLD CUT PLATTERS IN MALTA

I absolutely love indulging in a well-prepared cold cut and cheese board. Whether it's to sit down for a catch up with a few glasses of wine, for a pre or post theatre or cinema trip, or the one's I create when I have friends over.

You must never underestimate the importance of the contents on a charcuterie and cheese platter. Quality is exceptionally important, you can't just throw in any cheap hams with supermarket cheeses.

From the Italian to the intercontinental, custom-made to the fully-loaded, if a cold cut and cheese platter is what you want in Malta, here are the best places to get them from...

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:

1

Peck Casa Della Mozzarella, Naxxar

I discovered Peck Casa Della Mozzarella whilst having a stroll around Naxxar, not only is it a hidden gem, but it's a real slice of Italy in Malta too!

Upon entering, you will be hit by the hundreds of Italian cheeses, cured meats and cold cuts on offer for you to buy and take home. Or pick a selection that appeals to you from the deli to eat in (or alfresco). If you are overwhelmed, you can ask the staff to pick a selection of cheese and cuts for your platter.

Cheese & Cuts, Mosta

Cheese & Cuts are game changers when it comes to charcuterie and cheese.  The platters are always beautifully presented and very generous in portion. They make sure the platters change every fortnight for variation and all produce is imported straight from Italy.

That's definitely amore!

Salumeria, Valletta

Salumeria, Valletta

Salumeria say that they're the 'Home of cheese & charcuterie in Malta'... and with good reason. Not only will they sort you out with wedding and ouside catering based on the double C's, if you head over to Valletta for a nibble, they'll offer two platters.

One example is the Salumeria cheese & charcuterie platter which includes Coppa di Parma, some ventricina and salami Milano paired with parmeggiano, French brie, a goat cheese and blue cheese. Although it varies.

The Little Red Door, Valletta

The Red Little Door might be as iconic as The Yellow Brick Road. Here you'll find over 40 cheeses and more than a dozen cold cuts to choose from for the perfect platter.

Whether you want to customise it yourself or let their pros choose for you, you are guaranteed quality (and hefty portions).

HiMù, Gzira and St Julian's

HiMù is an eatery dedicated to high-quality mozzarella (which they make) and the prices are definitely pocket friendly! I've only been to the Gzira location for a quick nibble and I was very impressed by the plethora of different kinds of mozzarella, from bufala to smoked burrata, sracciatella di bufala , fior di latte, provola and more.

The cold cuts section is equally varied and features mortadella, bresaola, tons of different kinds of salamis (such as salame piccante and salame dolce) and many more.  You can choose from the set platters or create your own.

Grain @ Rosselli - AX Privilege, Valletta

Grain AX Rosselli, Valletta

Ok, so Grain at the super luxe Rosselli hotel, technically do not have a cheese and charcuterie platter per se. What they have is a generous cold cut platter from the starters/nibbles section and one, if not the best French cheese platter I have had in Malta from their dessert section.

It is very rare to find such a delectable French cheese platter on this island, especially as part of a dessert menu. I had a glass of wine and ordered two of the above to snack on and I could have died happy.  My cheese platter consisted of Sainte-Maure de Touraine, a strong brie, Tomme de Savoie and more.

Fernandõ Gastrotheque, Sliema

I've not been here yet, however,  I keep coming across photos of their artisanal cheese cabinet (packed full of French cheeses) and the premium charcuterie offering from their deli, which is why this chic eatery has been on my radar for a while.

As a cheese snob, I can tell from the photos that this is legit!

Trabuxu Wine Bar, Valletta

Trabuxu has been on my Must Visit list for quite a while. Every single time they pop up on my newsfeed, I can feel myself embarrassingly salivating. This is the kind of place I would stay hours in (until they kick me out).

Fermier French cheeses, Italian cheeses and Maltese cheeses are on offer which you can by per 50g to make up your platter. Enhance your board by choosing from their selection of cured meats such as salame di tartufo, salame di cervo and more (which you can by the half or whole).

I am coming for you real soon!

If you're in the mood for a bit of live jazz with your platter (usually from May until October), then Bridge Bar is most certainly the place to go. Live music or not, people always flock to BB... and I am sure their cold cut and cheeses boards are the reasons why.

Grana, Gzira

This new casual Italian eatery opened its doors a few months ago and I definitely dig their C and C offering. Here you'll find a platter with a selection of Italian cold cuts D.O.P, grana padano, honey and dried fruits.
