Inos: a new restaurant and lounge serving Greek food and traditional Swedish lunches in St. Julian’s
I’ve only had Swedish cuisine a handful of times many years ago in London, and mainly at a friend’s house. I think the new lunch offering at Inos, a new restaurant and lounge bar in Spinola Bay, is a sign that I need to get myself re-introduced to it.
Launched mid March, the Swedish menu, only available for lunch, promises to give guests a taste of Sweden.
Dishes include classics such as wallenbergare (veal patties with mashed potatoes, clarified), fried pork schnitzel (served with red wine jus, potatoes and green peas), krögarpytt/pyttipanna (similar to a hash brown consisting of chopped meats, potatoes and veg fried in a pan – served with a fried egg and beets) and breaded fish (with boiled potatoes, remoulade sauce), amongst other things.
Now here’s where it gets interesting… the actual main menu of the restaurant offers Greek food. Mezedes/meze come in the form of deep fried saganaki cheese, spetzofai (Greek sausage with fried peppers, eggplant in a herby tomato sauce), sesame deep-fried feta with honey, Greek meatballs, king prawn saganaki (cooked in tomato sauce with gratin feta and saganaki cheese) and deep-fried zucchini with an ouzo-flavoured dip.
Two of the Greek mains are a grilled calamari (stuffed with tomato, green peppers and saganaki cheese) and a chicken fillet (stuffed with feta, sundried tomatoes and saganaki).
There are also a plethora of Mediterranean dishes such as slow-cooked lamb shank, panko-breaded king prawns, and a butter-fried sea bass fillet with white wine sauce and truffle oil.
I’m very intrigued to try this place, It could go right or left. It’s just such a random combo of cuisines (which I am usually wary of), but it sounds good. I am not well-versed in Swedish food so I wouldn’t be able to tell you the authenticity but definitely could for the quality and flavours (or lack of).
One thing’s for sure though, the cocktails look delightful!
