Gyoza Galore. This is a statement I wholeheartedly stand by when describing the perfect dumplings being freshly-prepared at Koza Dumplings, a brand new take out joint in Ghargur which opened mid December.
Having lived in Japan and being from London, where the gyoza game is strong, I can tell the difference between the good, the bad and the ugly. Koza has certainly raised the bar for the feeble offerings currently being served on the island.
I am going to keep this short and sweet just like their menu. Here you’ll find large parcels of joy (each being around 30g), very lightly pan-fried at the bottom, and generously filled with the highest quality of protein and veg (using no additives).
I was also very impressed by the premium packaging and branding, especially for such a small independent business.
The menu at Koza, owned by a humble Chinese husband and wife with the sunniest of dispositions, includes five kinds of dumpling fillings. It was hard to choose but my favourite were the beef with cabbage, the pork with leek, the lamb with leek and the chicken with carrot & cabbage (in that order).
The gyoza wrappers and fillings are made from scratch and with love. The overall consistency is soft and oil-free.
They’re really affordable too with a portion of six (large and heavily stuffed dumplings) costing between 4EUR - 6EUR (with a 10% discount until the end of Feb) and a dozen between 7EUR-10EUR. Also available on Wolt.
Clean, fresh, authentic, affordable and no fuss - thumbs up!
