NEW SUMMER MENUS FROM THESE 15 DELICIOUS RESTAURANTS IN MALTA

Although i'd never say no to good food whatever the weather, it is really important for a restaurant (especially a reputable one) to change its menu according to the season.

I don't know about you, but for instance, I'd rather have a light gazpacho as opposed to a heavy cream-based soup in the 40 degree heat. Plus it shows that they're using ingredients that's in season. Not changing it up in the summer is the culinary equivalent of wearing a wooly jumper in August (i'm slightly exaggerating).

Anyway, after extensive research, here are 15 restaurants that have just rolled out tantalising summer menus.

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:

1

Noni, Valletta

Diners will be treated to dishes such as a roasted rump of lamb (served with moussaka and crumbled feta) as a main, and a mushroom tortellini starter, served with a delicate consomme and fermented mushrooms.

SALT - Kitchen & Lounge, Bugibba

Salt Restaurant, Malta, Bugibba

To make the menu as seasonal as possible, SALT recently changed their system to a menu of weekly specials. The executive chef has also kept a smaller selection of their signature dishes available throughout the year.

I'm liking the sound of the red prawn carpaccio (thinly sliced prawns with black salt, lemon curd, pistachio and a tangerine sorbet).

5

The Lord Nelson Restaurant, Mosta

The Lord Nelso Restaurant, Malta

This faved fine-dining institution will sort you out with summer dishes such as sous vide swordfish (with romesco, pineapple salsa and asparagus), local prawn carpaccio  (with spicy ketchup, pepper caviar, worcestershire froth) or octopus bolognese.

For dessert, you can even have a buffalo mozzarella cheesecake  with candied cherry tomato, olive oil and basil (i'd make a trip for that alone to be honest).

Hammett's Gastro Bar, Sliema

Oh hail Hammett's Gastro Bar for launching bold summery dishes such as a marisco soltado with prawns, calamari, new potato, tomatoes, soya, chili and coriander.

Judging by their past dishes, i'm sure it won't disappoint!

Taro at The villa, St Julian's

Tar at The Villa, St Julian's

Taro has to be one of my absolute favourite luxe dining restaurants in Malta. It isn't just because of the food, but the attention to detail from the dinnerware, glassware and the sleek decor. I have been to many Michelin restaurants and Taro would be a strong contender, if it were in London for example.

For the summer, not only have they moved outdoors, but they're offering starters like steamed clams with dashi broth and apple blossoms or Berlingot pasta with straciatella di buffalo and heirloom tomatoes. Mains come in the form of dishes such as tandoori spiced monkfish with red prawns, almond and haricot blanc.

Dimitri Valletta

You wouldn't expect anything less than fresh seasonal produce from Dimitri and that's exactly what their menu entails.

This involves local tuna (with wild capers, black olives and micro herbs from their back garden). The rabbit liver salad with melon, strawberries, kale and seasonal vegetables is also pretty tempting.
