REVIEW: NAAN BAR FINALLY LAUNCHES THEIR INDIAN A LA CARTE MENU PREPARED BY A MASTERCHEF UK FINALIST

I visited Naan Bar as soon as it opened its doors back in April and was utterly impressed. If you haven't heard about it yet, it's an exceptionally authentic Indian restaurant in Valletta that focuses on contemporary regional Indian cuisine. The fact that the main man cooking your dishes is a MasterChef UK finalist... makes it that little more special.

They waited a few months after their opening to release their a la carte, which only launched last month. The menu takes you to an expedition through the flavours of the country.

At Naan Bar, you won't find your typical vindaloo, rogan josh or korma curries. Expect innovative yet simple dishes that pay a true homage to India. Did you know that in India, people don't actually incorporate that much meat in their everyday diet? In fact, most dishes are heavily vegetarian or vegan.

The majority of Naan Bar's menu is meat-free but if you're a stubborn carnivore, do not let that put you off. I guarantee quality and flavours that will blow your mind.

The vast menu is split into several sections. From the Street Fare category, I recommend the delectable lamb seekh consisting of lamb skewers cooked in Tandoor marinated with degi chili, caraway seeds, garlic and ginger. You'll also enjoy the aloo tikki (a ginger and cumin spiced potato patty that has been pan-seared).

The Slow-Cooked section features a silky Paneer Makhani (cottage cheese simmered in tomato gravy with dry fenugreek) which will transport you to the streets of Mumbai with every bite.

Standout plates from the Comfort selection include chickpeas cooked with onion, tomato, coriander and garam masala (aka Pindi Chola) as well as the flavoursome Yellow Dal Tadka consisting of lentils deeply-marinated in turmeric, ginger and green chili.

You'll seriously regret not ordering the Tandoori Broccoli which is seasoned to the core. My seafood choice came in the form of the memorable Tandoori Jhinga (chunky and spiced yogurt marinated prawns) with exotic flavours that linger on.

Sitting downstairs by the theatre style open kitchen is a must if you want to see the chefs expertly work their magic.

Thank's Naan Bar, it's been a great pleasure yet again, you've been second to naan and I will be back very soon.
