Marie Boutique Patisserie’s New Brunch Menu Is a Feast for All the Senses

Some places don’t need to shout to get your attention.Marie Boutique Patisserie is one of them.

Tucked away in Rabat, it’s built a reputation for elegant French pâtisserie and celebration cakes that feel less like desserts and more like museum pieces. The kind that belong in the Louvre… although, given recent events, perhaps somewhere with slightly better security.

I’ve lost count of the birthdays, milestone celebrations and office wins that have featured one of Marie’s cakes. Enough, at least, to earn me a completely unofficial reputation as the office’s resident cake connoisseur.

So when Marie decided to refresh its summer brunch menu, resistance was never really on the cards.

The boutique patisserie has just launched its seasonal brunch menu, giving regulars another excuse to linger a little longer and newcomers a reason to look beyond the display cabinet.

Unlike plenty of brunch menus that seem to have been assembled from the same template, Marie isn’t interested in ticking boxes. No obligatory avocado on toast. No brunch-by-numbers. Instead, the kitchen quietly gets on with doing its own thing.

The savoury side happily ignores what everyone else seems to be doing. You’ll find dishes such as the Truffle, Mushroom & Grana Croissant, Ricotta, Pastrami & Poached Eggs on sourdough, Burrata & Pomegranate Salad and Torched Aged Chèvre French Toast with cognac, fig pâté and berries.

If your sweet tooth normally wins the argument, Marie hasn’t forgotten about you either. Expect house-made Belgian waffles, French toast topped with local peaches or caramelised banana, alongside a nostalgic serving of traditional imqaret with Tan-Nanna ice cream.

The food feels contemporary without trying too hard. Fresh local ingredients sit alongside French techniques and Mediterranean influences, while the presentation manages to look polished without falling into the trap of becoming food that’s clearly been plated for Instagram first and eaten second.

There’s also something rather satisfying about sitting down to a menu this modern in one of Malta’s oldest towns. Old streets outside. New summer menu inside. Somehow, the contrast just works.

If you’ve only ever associated Marie Boutique Patisserie with immaculate pâtisserie and cakes that arrive dressed better than most people, consider this your cue to claim one of those blue velvet seats and settle in for a proper brunch in Rabat.

Rabat has never needed much convincing as a destination. A brunch like this simply gives you another reason not to leave too quickly.
