Piccolo Padre Pizzeria & Trattoria Opens Its Second, Sea-Inspired Restaurant in Sliema
If you’ve spent any amount of time in St Julian’s, there’s a very good chance you know Piccolo Padre. You may have eaten there, you may have walked past it a hundred times, but the glass-fronted restaurant perched directly over the water has become something of a St Julian’s fixture.
The long-standing, family-friendly trattoria has been serving its extensive Italian and Mediterranean menu for years, with everything from pizzas and homemade pasta to fresh fish and seafood. Then, of course, there’s the setting. Floor-to-ceiling glass, terraces sitting directly above the water and the kind of uninterrupted sea views that have become almost as synonymous with Piccolo Padre as the food itself.
Now, it’s heading to Sliema Ferries. Piccolo Padre – Trattoria del Mare is opening this weekend (to the best of my knowledge) at Centric Hotel, taking the spirit of the original and giving it a new setting with a character of its own.
The Sliema restaurant will bring a slightly new menu, with fresh fish and seafood playing a bigger role alongside the Italian and Mediterranean cooking Piccolo Padre is known for. A little more maritime, without abandoning the familiar Piccolo Padre formula.
The new setting will also offer a more intimate take on the restaurant, still by the water, but with its own identity.
From one very recognisable stretch of coastline to another. Piccolo Padre is branching out.
