So, I got really high on a Friday and it was a mind-blowing multi-sensory experience. Let me explain…
Charismatic chef/restaurateur Marvin Gauci, and his talented team are once again running the international franchise Dinner in the Sky (which won tons of awards every year since they launched it four years ago).
Expect a fine dining restaurant elevated 40 metres from the ground. You’ll have jaw-dropping views of the island from the dinner table (which seats 22 people) and watch the chefs work their magic in the centre stage kitchen .
The menu is sure to please even the most discerning eater and is an ODE to molecular gastronomy. A Pina Colada molecuar sphere is presented to you to get your juices flowing. We started with meagre ceviche (cured in citrus, textures of beetroot, basil oil, coriander broths, green apple cubes, touch of chili and feta cheese foam), which induced an explosion of flavours to the palate and was an exemplary way to start our culinary journey.
A refreshing strawberry and mint gazpacho was served as the next course before tucking in to the mains. I opted for short beef ribs cooked with reduced Merlot wine in marrow bones jus… so tender, you could just tap it with a fork and witness it fall apart. There’s also the option of a sous-vide sea bass dish, duck leg confit or an aubergine gratin.
Dessert came in the form of an orange and almond delight, delicately garnished with cocoa sand, raspberry gel and mint leaves.
There are two sittings to choose from 7.00pm or 9.30pm (depending on whether you prefer a sunset or night city-lit backdrop).
The menu costs €135 per person and includes free-flowing wine. Extras such as oysters, caviar or champagne can be ordered at an additional cost.
There are a lot of things that I am grateful for in life, and not having a fear of heights is one of them. The experience is truly a memorable one from beginning to end.
Dinner in the Sky runs every weekend until September.
