There’s a New Specialty Coffee Bike Roaming the Island

Most people opening a coffee business worry about rent, furniture and whether the Wi-Fi reaches the back table. Mina had to learn about batteries, inverters, gas and how to keep an espresso machine alive on a bicycle. Slightly different admin.

Beanarchy is her black-and-fuchsia mobile specialty coffee bar, built after years of working around coffee and quietly wanting to do something of her own. Rather than opening another conventional café, she went mobile, then promptly discovered that building the bike required almost as much mechanical education as coffee knowledge.

Fortunately, the coffee side is not an afterthought. Mina first trained as a barista in her twenties and later studied with Deandra at COFFEE&Strangers, returning again before Beanarchy launched to brush up on dialling in, milk texture, workflow and latte art. Given that level of coffee nerdiness, I have a feeling Beanarchy may eventually find its way onto my list of the best speciality coffee spots in Malta.

The House Rules Blend is roasted locally using Brazilian and Kenyan beans, designed to work both as espresso and in milk-based drinks. Alongside the classics, there is a rotating signature menu called “today’s chaos”, which has already included burnt vanilla, honey-lavender-vanilla, toasted black sesame and a Salted Caramel Popcorn Latte.

Mina also bakes, with espresso brownies, stuffed cookies and other small-batch treats in the works, often working coffee into the bakes themselves rather than treating the two as separate things.

And then there are the edible cups. Yes, actual cups you drink from and then eat afterwards. Beanarchy plans to introduce them soon, which feels appropriately chaotic.

Right now, Mina is testing different locations around Malta rather than settling into one permanent spot.

After a short break from 29 September to 19 October, Beanarchy will return with a set schedule published on social media, so you’ll know where to find the bike. It is also available for private and corporate events, markets, festivals and collaborations, with menus and signature drinks tailored to the occasion.

A coffee shop without a coffee shop. Frankly, the espresso machine seems to be coping with the identity crisis rather well.
