Malta Has a Dedicated Spanish Deli. Did You Know?
Artisan delis are hardly a rare sight in Malta. Italian produce has been comfortably holding court for years, while French has carved out a respectable little corner of its own. Spain, though, has always felt oddly absent from the conversation. Which is slightly ridiculous, when you consider the country has made an art form out of knowing exactly what to do with pork, cheese and a very good bottle of wine. Well, I don’t know how I’d managed to miss it, but did you know Malta actually has a dedicated Spanish deli? I certainly didn’t.

Opened around a year ago by the team behind Iber&Co, the Spanish restaurant in Valletta, Casa Pepa in Naxxar flies the Spanish flag properly.
On the meat front, you’ll find everything from whole legs of jamón hanging proudly behind the counter to freshly sliced Iberian cured meats, fuet, chorizo and other artisan sausages.

The cheese selection goes well beyond Manchego too, with a variety of Spanish cheeses sitting alongside pâtés, conservas, preserves, olive oils, premium wines and shelves full of pantry staples imported directly from Spain.

It doesn’t stop there either. You’ll also find premium Spanish beef cuts, ready-to-cook specialities and plenty of ingredients that are surprisingly difficult to come by unless you’ve just stepped off a flight from Madrid or Barcelona.

Whether you’re planning a tapas night, you’re a Spanish expat missing a taste of home, or you simply love Spanish food and want to discover ingredients you won’t find on the average supermarket shelf, consider this your invitation to make Casa Pepa your casa.
