The first MICHELIN Guide for wine is almost here – meet the MICHELIN Grape

For more than a century, the MICHELIN Guide has helped diners decide where to eat. In December 2025, it announced it would soon be turning its attention to what’s in the glass. On 7 July, the first MICHELIN Grapes will finally be revealed.

The MICHELIN Grape is a brand-new recognition for outstanding wine producers, with Burgundy and Bordeaux leading the first edition. However, the selection is non-exhaustive and will continue expanding over time, with exceptional wine estates from around the world expected to follow.

The award celebrates the producers behind the bottle. Inspectors assess wineries against five key criteria, including the quality of the vineyards, technical expertise, the estate’s unique identity, consistency across vintages and how well each wine expresses its terroir.

What do the grapes mean?

  • Three MICHELIN Grapes recognise exceptional producers whose wines show outstanding quality across vintages.
  • Two MICHELIN Grapes are awarded to producers that stand out for quality, consistency and character within their region.
  • One MICHELIN Grape recognises producers crafting wines with strong character and style, especially in standout vintages.
  • Selected highlights producers making reliable, well-crafted wines worth keeping on your radar.

For restaurants, hotels, wine bars and importers, it introduces another internationally recognised benchmark when building wine lists. For wine lovers, it offers a trusted new way to discover producers worth seeking out, whether that’s at a restaurant, a wine shop or on your next trip abroad.

The next MICHELIN-recognised experience you have might not be a tasting menu or a luxury hotel. It could simply be a bottle from one of these producers, whether you order it with dinner or decide to take it home.

Burgundy is only the beginning. And with wineries such as Ta’ Betta and Marsovin continuing to showcase what Maltese wine is capable of, it would be fantastic to see the MICHELIN Grape eventually arrive here too.
